How Hawaiian Electric’s plans work
Schedule R (Residential Service). In July the first 350 kWh a month cost 43.1¢ each; then 44.5¢ above 350 kWh a month, then 46.7¢ above 1,200 kWh a month. An average Hawaii home (546 kWh in July) goes past the first tier, so extra load such as an EV is priced higher. Fixed charge: $15.30 a month. Minimum bill: $30.22 a month.
Schedule TOU-R (ARD) (Residential Time-of-Use). Mid-peak 12 am–9 am, Peak 5 pm–9 pm, Mid-peak 9 pm–12 am on July weekdays; 4 of 24 hours carry the top price of 65.3¢. The cheapest July weekday hour costs 22.0¢, so moving 1 kWh out of the top hours saves 43.3¢. January weekdays range from 22.0¢ to 65.3¢. Fixed charge: $21.13 a month. Minimum bill: $30.22 a month.
Prices on this page are all-in per kWh, before taxes: base rates, supply and every per-kWh rider in the utility’s current tariff sheets. Your bill shows them as separate lines, and riders can change between tariff revisions.
As a cross-check, Hawaiian Electric billed its residential customers an average of 42.87¢ per kWh in 2024 (revenue ÷ sales, EIA-861). A plan taken from URDB is shown only if its all-in price is consistent with that figure, adjusted for Hawaii’s price change since.
