How MDU’s plans work
Rate 10 (Residential Electric Service). In July the first 0 kWh a month cost 12.1¢ each; then . An average North Dakota home (1,077 kWh in July) stays within the first tier. Fixed charge: $19.23 a month.
Rate 16 (Optional Time-of-Day Residential Service). Peak noon–8 pm on July weekdays; 8 of 24 hours carry the top price of 14.0¢. The cheapest July weekday hour costs 10.2¢, so moving 1 kWh out of the top hours saves 3.8¢. January weekdays range from 8.3¢ to 12.1¢. Summer pricing applies Jun–Sep; winter pricing Oct–May. Weekends follow a different schedule from weekdays. Fixed charge: $30.36 a month.
Prices on this page are all-in per kWh, before taxes: base rates, supply and every per-kWh rider in the utility’s current tariff sheets. Your bill shows them as separate lines, and riders can change between tariff revisions.
As a cross-check, MDU billed its residential customers an average of 11.72¢ per kWh in 2024 (revenue ÷ sales, EIA-861). A plan taken from URDB is shown only if its all-in price is consistent with that figure, adjusted for North Dakota’s price change since.
