Is R or R-PIV cheaper?

R is cheaper at every level of use from 200 to 2,500 kWh a month, with the same daily pattern of use. Adding an EV driven 1,000 miles a month and charged at each plan’s cheapest hour, R-PIV gives the lower total ($284 against $288 a month).

What is the difference between R and R-PIV?

R is flat: the same price at every hour, with a fixed charge of $9.75 a month. R-PIV is time-of-use (summer weekdays: Peak noon–8 pm; lowest price 8 pm–noon next day), with a fixed charge of $9.75 a month.

How the two plans work

R: Residential Service

  • One price per kWh at every hour: 22.3¢ in July and 23.1¢ in January.
  • Shifting use to other hours changes nothing on this plan; using less is the only lever.
  • Fixed charge: $9.75 a month.

R-PIV: Residential With Plug-In Vehicle Charging Service

  • Peak noon–8 pm on July weekdays; 8 of 24 hours carry the top price of 30.5¢.
  • The cheapest July weekday hour costs 19.2¢, so moving 1 kWh out of the top hours saves 11.3¢.
  • January weekdays range from 19.4¢ to 37.2¢.
  • Summer pricing applies Jun–Sep; winter pricing Oct–May.
  • Weekends differ: off-peak all day.
