Adding an EV driven 1,000 miles a month and charged at each plan’s cheapest hour, RS-TOD gives the lower total ($226 against $231 a month).

What is the difference between RS and RS-TOD?

RS is tiered: the price per kWh rises with monthly use, with a fixed charge of $8.77 a month. RS-TOD is time-of-use (summer weekdays: Mid-peak 6 am–2 pm, Peak 2 pm–6 pm, Mid-peak 6 pm–8 pm; lowest price 8 pm–6 am next day), with a fixed charge of $8.77 a month.

How the two plans work

RS: Residential Service

  • In July every kWh costs about 19.5¢, whatever the month's use.
  • Fixed charge: $8.77 a month.

RS-TOD: Residential Service, Time-of-Day Option

  • Mid-peak 6 am–2 pm, Peak 2 pm–6 pm, Mid-peak 6 pm–8 pm on July weekdays; 4 of 24 hours carry the top price of 23.4¢.
  • The cheapest July weekday hour costs 17.8¢, so moving 1 kWh out of the top hours saves 5.6¢.
  • January weekdays range from 17.8¢ to 23.3¢.
  • Summer pricing applies Jun–Aug; winter pricing Sep–May.
  • Weekends differ: off-peak all day.
  • Fixed charge: $8.77 a month.
